Lady Chevrons coach, Gary Brent is wary of the threat posed by Namibia in their quest to secure one of the two ICC T20 Women Global qualifiers spots.
The Lady Chevrons will face Namibia in the opening semi-final at the Entebbe Cricket Oval in Uganda this morning while Uganda take on Tanzania in the second semi-final.
Winners, who will be guaranteed the two tickets for the global qualifiers, will clash in the final tomorrow while the losers feature in a third-place play off.
Lady Chevrons coach Brent said that his charges will be all out to secure victory.
“Tomorrow (today) is the big match against Namibia.
“They (Namibia) are a very experienced side and they have a lot of players that have played together for a long time so we are quite confident going into the game, we know we have to execute.
“The goal is to qualify and that is the reason why we are here (Uganda) and if we can go ahead and win the tournament that would be great but what we need is to qualify,” said Brent.
He said that despite looking to secure a berth at the global qualifiers and winning the tournament now within reach they are not putting themselves under pressure going into today’s game.
“Our target will be to have a clean sweep in everything but targets are just targets hence we are not putting ourselves under any pressure. But we are looking forward to the next match, next ball and we do not want to look too far ahead.
“If we look far ahead it gives us pressure therefore we are not doing that,” said the Chevrons coach.
Zimbabwe secured a place in the semi-final with an unbeaten run in the group stages, with Brent heaping praise on his charges for playing according to plan.
“I would not say we had an easy stroll in the group stages but the girls played very well and restricted the opposition to go any further and made the opposition not to do well as they would have wanted which is something commendable,” said Brent.
