Lady Chevrons’ Double Delight

A day after clinching the first of the two spots at next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers, it was all smiles again for the Lady Chevrons as they were crowned champions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2023.

The Lady Chevrons beat hosts Uganda by six wickets in the final of the of the regional qualifiers held at Entebbe Cricket Oval yesterday.

The win ensured that Zimbabwe finished as the only unbeaten side of the eight teams that took part at the tournament.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe sent Uganda to bat first before bowling out the hosts for 79 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Zimbabwe managed to chase down the target  in 15 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Precious Marange starred with the ball as she claimed five wickets and effected a run-out in the final to pick up her third player of the match accolade at the tournaments.

Uganda lost their first wicket after five overs when Kevin Awino was run out by Ashley Ndiraya with hosts having scored just four runs.

Uganda lost three wickets through run-outs. Chasing a target of 76 runs in 20 overs, the Lady Chevrons scored 85/4 in 14.3 overs.

Modester Mupachikwa had the most runs for the Lady Chevrons with 22, followed by skipper and opner Mary-Anne Musonda with 21.  ChipoMugeri-Tiripano and Ndiraya each scored 10 while Kelis Ndlovu and Josephine Nkomo were unbeaten for 15 and two runs respectively.  Despite losing the final Uganda will join Zimbabwe at next year’s global qualifiers.
