ZIMBABWE continued their fine run in the Women’s T20I Quadrangular series as they recorded their third consecutive win, triumphant by three wickets over Thailand in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, yesterday to finish unbeaten.

The Lady Chevrons won their first two matches against USA and UAE, beating them by five wickets and 47 runs respectively.

After electing to bat first, Thailand women were restricted to 102-5 in their 20 overs by the Lady Chevrons. Left arm seamer, Nomvelo Sibanda was the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe finishing with figures of 2-14 in her four overs.

In just two overs, 16-year-old KeIis Ndlovu took one wicket, conceding just seven runs and Josephine Nkomo also had one wicket for 22 runs in her four overs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top scored for Thailand with 28 runs, followed by Naruemol Chaiwai and Chanida Sutthiruang both with 25 runs.

In their chase, Zimbabwe managed to chase down the target in 18.4 overs, finishing on 106/7 with Sharne Mayers two runs short of a half-century. Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano was the second highest run getter for Zimbabwe with 26 runs on the board to take the Lady Chevrons over the line with eight balls to spare.

For her 48 runs, Sharne Mayers was voted Player of the Match.

The Mary-Anne Musona-captained Lady Chevrons used the matches to prepare for the 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier taking place in the UAE from 18 to 25 September and serves as the qualification tournament for the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament. The top two teams from the qualifier tournament will progress to the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Zimbabwe qualified for the global event after they won the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier held in Botswana a year ago.
