THE Lady Chevrons left the country yesterday for the United Arab Emirates where they will take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier which will run from September 18-25.
In preparation for the competition, Zimbabwe are set to take part in a quadrangular series involving the United States, Thailand and hosts United Arab Emirates. The quad series will take place at the ICC Academy in Dubai from September 10-13.
Zimbabwe will face the United States on September 10 before playing against the United Arab Emirates on September 12. They will conclude the series with a tie against Thailand.
The sides will use the series for the World Cup qualifier that will see Zimbabwe face United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Papua New Guinea in group B. Group A comprises the United States, Ireland, Scotland and Bangladesh.
The Lady Chevrons will play Papua New Guinea at the adjacent Tolerance Oval on the opening day while hosts UAE will take on Thailand at the adjacent Zayed Cricket Stadium on the same day.
The matches at the Tolerance Oval will be the first full internationals at the ground since it was given ICC accreditation while the Zayed Cricket Stadium will host the final as well as both semi-finals.
The top two teams from the qualifier tournament will progress to the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be played in South Africa.
The qualifier will be the fifth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup qualification pathway.
Already the Lady Chevrons have been in Bengaluru, India and South Africa in preparation for the qualifier. – @innocentskizoe
