QUEENS Sports Club is set for a busy week as Zimbabwe’s women’s cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, host the United Arab Emirates in a six match white-ball series starting on Friday.
The visitors landed in Bulawayo yesterday and will first meet a Zimbabwe High Performance Centre side in a warm up match at Bulawayo Athletic Club tomorrow.
The series will then move to Queens, featuring four One Day Internationals (ODIs) on September 27, 28, 30 and October 2, before concluding with two T20 Internationals on October 5 and 6.
Zimbabwe go into this contest with tails up after winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Namibia earlier this month. That triumph booked them a place at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026 in Nepal, scheduled for January to February, the final gateway to the 2026 World Cup.
The UAE clashes are also an early step in preparations for another major challenge, Zimbabwe Women’s debut in the expanded ICC Women’s Championship.
They will face New Zealand away in February and March 2026 as part of the pathway to the 2029 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
“The UAE series is very important to us and it fits perfectly in our plans as we prepare for the Global Qualifier early next year,” said Lady Chevrons head coach Walter Chawaguta.
“It gives us the momentum that we need as a team and, at the same time, it also gives us an opportunity to look at some of the players who have been out due to injury and are now making a comeback.”
Chawaguta added that the fixture list gives the team room to address any issues.
“The timing is also good because it allows us enough space after the series to regroup and address any issues that may have come up. UAE are a good side, with strong batters and bowlers, and they will challenge us as we get ready for the Qualifier.”
Zimbabwe Cricket will announce the final squad in the coming days.

Cant they play prep matches with under 17 or 19 boys. They were awful when they last played in similar competition I remember.
