Lady Chevrons all-rounder and vice-captain, Josephine Nkomo has joined the team’s camp ahead of the South Africa tour and the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month.
Nkomo who missed the team’s 18-day training camp in India last month after she had signed for English side South North Cricket Club returned to the country on Wednesday.
The all-rounder helped her team win the Northumberland Women’s Cricket League this season. South North played nine T20 games, winning six, losing one with two being rained off. The lady Chevron was the star of the team as she top-scored for them with 187 runs.
The experienced Nkomo, who made her national team debut at the age of 15 in 2012 will be a much-needed addition to the Lady Chevrons team as they prepare for South Africa and UAE.
Zimbabwe regrouped on Tuesday ahead of Friday’s departure for a preparatory tour of South Africa.
In a statement, the English side thanked their Zimbabwean star for her services and wished her luck as she joins the national team.
“We would like to thank Josephine for all her time and hard work over the summer, she has been a vital part of the club, follow Josephine’s journey as she goes on tour with Zimbabwe to South Africa before flying to Dubai for the World Cup Qualifiers,” said South North Cricket Club in a statement.
The Lady Chevrons are in group B of the qualifiers with Thailand, Papua New Guinea and the hosts, UAE.
