LADY CHEVRONS HUNT REDEMPTION: Queens showdown to level series

Brandon Moyo

QUEENS Sports Club will be the stage for redemption this afternoon as the Lady Chevrons look to bounce back and square the T20I series against the visiting United Arab Emirates (UAE).

After falling short by 35 runs in Sunday’s opener, Zimbabwe’s senior women’s cricket side are out to prove a point and ensure the two-match series ends level at one all.

The Lady Chevrons will be banking on the explosive batting of Kelis Ndlovu and the composure of Modester Mupachikwa, who are expected to anchor the innings after a shaky start in the first game. All-rounders Josephine Nkomo and Loreen Tshuma will once again shoulder the responsibility with both bat and ball.

The tourists, meanwhile, will look to ride on their winning momentum after skipper Esha Oza and opener Theertha Satish inspired them to victory in the opener.

The Lady Chevrons will also draw inspiration from their fighting spirit in the just-ended ODI series, which finished 2–2 after an impressive comeback.

Having won the toss, UAE have opted to bat first, setting the stage for an early bowling assault from the home side, led by Francisca Chipare and Loryn Phiri, who will be key in containing the visitors’ top order.

Teams:

Zimbabwe: Modester Mupachikwa, Kelis Ndlovu, Nyasha Gwanzura, Loreen Tshuma, Josephine Nkomo, Loryn Phiri, Chiedza Dhururu, Francisca Chipare, Kudzai Chigora, Lindokuhle Mabhera, Christine Mutasa
UAE: Esha Oza, Theertha Satish, Heena Hotchandani, Samaira Dharnidharka, Rinitha Rajith, Lavanya Keny, Michelle Botha, Suraksha Kotte, Siya Gokhale, Udeni Dona, Indhuja Nandakumar

The hosts will need grit, discipline and a bit of sparkle to pull one back and end the series on a high in front of their home fans.
