THE Zimbabwe senior national women’s cricket team put final touches to their preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Africa Qualifier in Botswana.
The tournament began yesterday morning and Zimbabwe had a bye on the opening day, and will get the ball rolling against Tanzania today.
The Lady Chevrons are the team to beat, as the highest ranked side in the tournament.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier is two steps away from the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Zimbabwe are in the same group as hosts Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda and Tanzania in the 11-team tournament being played in Gaborone.
Uganda, who are also favourites, form Group B along with Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals, before the two finalists compete on September 19 for the lone qualification spot to the Global Qualifier 2022.
The event also provides the opportunity for teams to move up the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings, with Zimbabwe (12th) the highest ranked out of all participating teams. Uganda (18th) and Tanzania (19th) are the other participating teams that feature in the top 20.
