IT was a bad day for Zimbabwean cricket yesterday with the Lady Chevrons suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Ireland Women in the first ODI at Harare Sports Club.
The Lady Chevrons lost the series opener by 10 wickets. After they were sent in to bat first, the Lady Chevrons were bowled out for 170 runs in 42, 5 overs and Ireland went on to finish on 110/0 in 13, 1 overs. Ireland was now chasing a revised target of 110 runs in 21 overs after the match was reduced due to rain disturbances throughout the day. Captain Mary Anne-Musonda broke the record for playing the most Women’s ODIs for Zimbabwe with 12, going past Modester Mupachikwa. The 280 runs scored in total in the game also became the lowest match aggregate between the two teams.
The second ODI is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
