Lady Chevrons skipper, Mary-Anne Musonda believes the T20 series against South Africa Emerging side will help the senior women’s national team to come up with combinations that will play a key part in the Africa Qualifiers set for Uganda next month.
The Lady Chevrons are hosting the South African Emerging side in six T20 matches.
The series started yesterday with the visitors claiming an eight wicket victory.
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe chose to bat first and were restricted to 96 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
The target proved to be an easy one for the visitors as they chased it down inside 11.2 overs scoring 99 runs for the loss of two wickets. Musonda believes the series against South African Emerging side which started yesterday will give the Lady Chevrons an opportunity to put what they have trained over the months into practice as they finalise their preparations for the Africa Qualifiers.
“Talking about South Africa Emerging side series, it will be a good test, a good gauge on how far we are and how much work we need to do.
“Obviously this series will an opportunity to fix and tighten screws on some areas we feel we need to work on hence we are looking forward to the series,” said Musonda.
Having spent three week in India recently Musonda believes that the training camps that the national team has been subjected to are eye opening experiences for her charges.
“Our recent camp to India really learnt a lot.
“We played in conditions that most players are not familiar too, the slower turning conditions with a little bit of bounce not that we are used too.
“The spin was the biggest lesson and we came up with options on how to play spin,” said Musonda.
She added despite being ready for the qualifiers the series will award the Lady Chevrons an opportunity to work on their shortcomings ahead of the qualifiers.
“The series will also able give us an insight into what we need in the little that we are left with before the qualifiers begin but I am happy that we have covered a lot of base and even mentally we are in good space,” said Musonda.
