ZIMBABWE’S Lady Chevrons are set to return to action next month when they host the United States of America women’s side on five One Day Internationals (ODI) series.
The five ODI series will be the first bilateral series between the two countries and the matches are scheduled to run from October 17 to October 28.
Zimbabwe Cricket are, however, yet to advise on the venues of the games.
After hosting Ireland in January, the upcoming ODI series will be the first active match for the Lady Chevrons in the longer version of white-ball cricket.
Zimbabwe’s last ODI series came in January when the Lady Chevrons played host to Ireland in a three-ODI series.
They lost 2-0 in their series against the Irish.
The upcoming series will be the first bilateral series for the US on African soil.
Their initial tour of Africa ended prematurely due to the Covid-19 pandemic which scuppered the 2021 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
US coach Hilton Moreeng believes the upcoming series against Zimbabwe will be key in the team’s objective of improving in both the long and shorter versions of cricket.
“We are looking forward to playing ODI cricket and challenging ourselves as a team to keep improving in this format.
“The longer format offers a different challenge for the team,” said Moreeng.
He added that they were eagerly anticipating their clashes against Zimbabwe in which they hope to prevail over the Lady Chevrons.
“The team shows a lot of promise and with the talented group of players we have, we’re looking forward to a successful tour in Zimbabwe,” he said.
In their previous meetings, the two teams shared the spoils winning one apiece in the 50-over match.
But those games were not considered ODIs because the United States did not have the ICC’s ODI status until 2022.
Now the upcoming series will be the first ODI series between the two sides.
However, in 2011, the US pulled off a memorable victory over Zimbabwe in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Bangladesh.
Ten years later, Zimbabwe turned the tables on the US in the World Cup Qualifier on home soil.
