Langa aims to bridge communication gaps for Insiza North

HAVING been a teacher, Cde Moses Nkosilomusa Langa appreciates how vital clear communication is for progress. Keen to use his classroom skills, he aims to establish information flow from the grassroots in Insiza North right up to national level, all to benefit his community.

This is the pledge made by the winner of the Zanu-PF primary elections held over the weekend, securing the party’s ticket to contest in the upcoming National Assembly by-election. The by-election follows the passing of the Insiza North Member of Parliament (MP), Cde Farai Taruvinga, last month.

Cde Langa, who also serves as the Zanu-PF Matabeleland South Youth Provincial chairperson, says his drive to uplift the youth of Insiza North is inspired by President Mnangagwa’s vision for the economic empowerment and transformation of young lives across Zimbabwe.

Born on September 20, 1991, he is the son of former Sports Minister, Cde Andrew Langa. He attended local schools in Filabusi before enrolling at Esigodini Agricultural College, where he attained a Diploma in Agriculture.

“I taught at Sibata Secondary School in Ward 19, Insiza North, for a few years, where I believe I honed my communication skills. These skills are proving invaluable in my journey as a young politician committed to the development of Insiza North and its people,” he told Zimpapers.

He is also a former loans officer with a local bank and is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Lupane State University.

Cde Langa’s political career began at the tender age of 17. He is confident in his ability to represent the people of Insiza North effectively.

“My political journey began in 2007, shortly after secondary school, in my local ward in Insiza District. I was part of a team that mobilised new members into Zanu-PF party cells, and I was later elected District Secretary for Education. I was elected into the national executive of the Provincial Youth League at a young age and later served as the youngest member of the Zanu-PF Central Committee,” he said.

Throughout his time as a teacher and during his stint at the bank, Cde Langa maintained close ties with party structures at both ward and district levels. These relationships earned him widespread support during the 2021 election for the Matabeleland South Provincial Youth League chairmanship, a position he still holds today.

“That role has taught me to remain humble, grounded and to be a good listener, someone who understands the everyday struggles of the people and works hard to offer practical solutions,” he said.

While his father and grandfather, the late veteran nationalist Cde Edwin Langa, who at one time was detained with late Vice President Joshua Nkomo during the liberation struggle, were both well-established politicians, Cde Langa insists that his rise in politics has not been without hard work.

“I’ve learnt a great deal from my father and grandfather, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t worked hard myself. As the Langa family, Zanu-PF is in our DNA and we are committed to serving the revolutionary party,” he said.
Insiza North has long been a Zanu-PF stronghold and Cde Langa is determined to continue that legacy with a decisive win in the upcoming by-election.

“Insiza North is more than just resettlement land from the historic Land Reform Programme. It is home to hardworking farmers, and Zanu-PF is the only party that has consistently supported them with essential agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertiliser.

“Youth empowerment is also a top priority for the ruling party. We continue to support young people interested in mining by facilitating access to the necessary equipment,” he said.

He believes the mining sector in the constituency has the potential to generate employment and steer young people away from drug and substance abuse.

“As a young politician, I am motivated to work tirelessly for Zanu-PF and contribute to the growth of the revolutionary party in Insiza North. Youth representation in President Mnangagwa’s Cabinet is proof that His Excellency walks the talk when he says the future of the ruling party lies in the hands of young people.”
