TOMORROW sees the final round of the 2024 Kart Sport Club Championship being held at the Pole Position kart track at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
The racing will see an interesting set of heats in all three classes.
The 125 Max class will see the fastest times of the day as usual, with exciting racing expected between these closely matched drivers and karts.
With each heat exceeding 10km, spectators will be treated to almost 40km of top class karting from these youngsters.
Watch out for tactics such as slipstreaming and late braking as these experienced drivers chase the championship down to the last round – often at speeds of over 90Kph!
Seth Rukato, who recently returned from competing in the ROK Cup Superfinal in Italy last weekend, will join this class for the first time in preparation for his assault on this class in the 2025 season.
Yaseen Savania and Devin van de Linde are expected to set the pace in the Mini ROK class, with Eshaan Savania also in the mix. These drivers have been competing against each other all season and the rivalry has been clear to see on the track.
Yaseen Savania has lots to prove after just missing out in the Mini ROK title fight this year.
With drivers from just six years of age, the youngest competitors will take to the track for the Kid ROK class.
Once again, close racing is predicted as next year, two of the drivers will graduate to the faster Mini ROK class.
Don’t be fooled by their young age, though, these drivers are competitive, and they mean business!
Kart Sport Club chairman, Victor Shambare, commented, “It has been a great year for Kart Sport Club. Not only have we held seven extremely competitive race meetings here at our world class home track, but we have had members competing regionally in South Africa in their national races and in the African Karting Cup.
“Seth Rukato qualified to compete in last weekend’s ROK Cup Superfinal in Italy and flew the Zimbabwe flag high, gaining many friends and increasing in experience that he is longing to share with our other drivers.”
Pole Position Kart track owner, Kevin Dufty, added, “This has been the second year of racing at our track and we are proud of the achievements of the drivers and their support teams.
“Karting is a wonderful sport in its own right, as well as being a favourite with aspiring F1 drivers! It’s the cheapest form of motorsport available in Zimbabwe and anyone from the age of 8 can take it up as a hobby from as little as $6 for a rental kart drive before progressing to race karts!”
Kart racing tomorrow starts at 10:30am at the Pole Position Kart track within the National Sports Stadium venue – gate entry is US$2 with children under 10 years free.
