Late freedom fighter hailed

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Mashonaland West Mary Mliswa-Chikoka has described the death of former freedom fighter Cde Elisha Teyiwa as a loss not only to his family, but the whole nation.

Cde Teyiwa, whose Chimurenga name was Kanyawu Chiwororo, was buried at the Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre last Wednesday.

“Cde Teyiwa’s death is not a loss to his family, but everyone in Zimbabwe including the people of Zvimba, Mashonaland West and the whole country,” she said.

Cde Teyiwa was born on July 3, 1955 in Chipinge, Manicaland province and grew up in Tsododo Village under Chief Mutema. He attended Ngaone Primary School from 1967 to 1972.

In 1976, Cde Teyiwa joined the liberation struggle on the side of Zanla forces in Chipungabheira in Mozambique, where he received military training for six                                     months.

Cde Teyiwa received further military training through professional qualification in field engineering between 1977 and 1978.

He also played a major role during the land reform programme and was allocated land at Hill Norton Farm in Zvimba.
