LATEST: Byo Mayor tours cricket facilities…wishes Chevrons well

BULAWAYO Mayor Martin Moyo has wished the Zimbabwe national cricket team well in the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup which starts on Sunday.

Speaking after being taken on a tour of playing and training facilities for the ICC Cricket World Cup in the city, Moyo noted that cricket is one of the sports that have been on the downturn for a number of years and the team’s qualification for next year’s World Cup in England would be good for the country.

“We are ready for the games and because we are Zimbabweans our best wish and hope is that our team wins, qualifiers for the World Cup so that we can be put on the World map in terms of cricket. It’s one of those sports that has been on the decline lately and I am sure that these are signs that we are now beginning to revive cricket,’’ said Moyo.

He toured playing grounds Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo Athletic Cub as well as the Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy which is a training facility. ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Bulawayo Local Organising Committee chairman Nicholas Singo and provincial association chairperson Vumindaba Moyo led the Mayor on the tour.

Bulawayo Central district administrator, Fungayi Nkunziwalela as well as members of the city’s LOC were also part of the tour.

The country’s second largest city will be hosting 10 group stage matches from 4 to 12 March with one Super Sixes clash also in Bulawayo on 15 March at Queens.
