LATEST: DA, ANC await electoral court ruling on sms case

ancJOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Alliance and African National Congress will know on Tuesday whether an sms sent to more than a million potential voters about upgrades in Nkandla violates the electoral code and act.

Judgment on the matter is expected to be handed down Tuesday afternoon in the electoral court in Bloemfontein.

The sms was sent to Gauteng residents claiming that President Jacob Zuma had stolen taxpayers’ money for upgrades at his Nkandla home.

The ANC took the case to the South Gauteng High Court in a bid to have the sms retracted.

The high court ruled in favour of the DA stating that the sms constituted fair comment.

The ANC appealed seeking a retraction of the sms. It also wants an apology to be sent to the recipients and the ANC. – SABC
