TRIBAL house trio, Djembe Monks and songstress Thandy Dhlana will on Tuesday perform at a live concert that has been initiated by Youth for Innovation Trust.
The event seeks to bring citizens together in addressing issues of debt distress.
The free concert starting at 2pm will be held at the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo and live-streamed on the YIT Facebook and YouTube channels.
The event will have discussions of how debt distress is affecting service delivery and quality of livelihoods in the city.
In raising awareness, YIT will also be bringing in different stakeholders in both local and central governance to answer to the demands of citizens.
Said YIT director Thando Gwniji: “YIT will tomorrow present to the citizens, a Youth Position Paper that articulates the day-to-day demands of urban life. The activity is part of an ongoing campaign by YIT whose title is ‘Debt is Slavery of the Free.’
“Earlier this year, we hosted a poetry slam under the same theme which was adjudicated by local councillors including the deputy mayor and it spelled out how young women are affected by debt distress and called out for a multi-stakeholder approach.”
Gwinji said YIT continues to utilise creative activism through engaging artistes and the creative sector to speak to these important issues. – @mthabisi_mthire
