NEWLY appointed Highlanders technical manager, Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu believes his charges are capable of elevating his side to a top four finish despite the sluggish start his side has experienced.

Mpofu took over from Madinda Ndlovu feels they have an able squad to pluck themselves from the relegations waters to the top of the log.

Addressing his first press conference as Bosso technical manager, Lulu said the 10 point gap between his side and log leaders, FC Platinum is not insurmountable.

“You will realise there is only a 10 point gap between us and the log leaders which is three and half games but we have 22 games to play which means there is room for us to turnaround our poor start.

“I believe a top four finish is a more realistic target considering where we are. I think we are going to perform better than last year.

“We have a great squad; the composition of the team makes me believe we can make it. I don’t have any doubt that we have got a great team that can win games and see us at the top,” he said.

Mpofu said revealed his is ready for his first game against Ngezi Platinum this Saturday with the boys having been working hard at training.

He said during talks with players they had resolved not to lose to teams they lost to last season and they do not want to lose to Ngezi, a side that collected six points in their two clashes.

Highlanders will be missing three strikers heading into Saturday’s game against Ngezi Platinum with industrious forward, Prince Dube serving a suspension for accumulating three yellow cards while the diminutive Ray Lunga and Zambian, Peter Nyirenda have been ruled out by injuries sustained during training.

Mpofu said the absence of the three forwards is a blow to their plans ahead of the Ngezi clash adding they will have to do with other players in the squad.

Bosso is likely to take on their former coaches, Erol Akbay and Cosmas Zulu with a makeshift strike force with Tinashe Makanda being the other only striker available.
