THE Registrar General’s Office will extend the mobile registration exercise to Binga in Matabeleland North, among other remote areas.

More than 10 000 citizens have accessed national documents in three districts countrywide following a mobile blitz that started last month.

The RG’S office in September embarked on a registration exercise targeting the San community in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North, before extending the programme to neighbouring Bulilima in Matabeleland South.

The RG’s office also conducted similar exercises in Bikita, Masvingo province between September 14 and October 13.

Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the mobile registration exercise will continue targeting vulnerable communities which cannot easily access offices.

“The mobile registration exercise that was taking place in Bikita, Tsholotsho and Bulilima districts came to an end on the 13th of October 2021, with a total of 10 685 national identification cards and 8 250 birth certificates having been issued. Focus will now shift to other disadvantaged communities, including Binga, and vulnerable communities along the borders of the country,” Minister Mutsvangwa.

Government has said every citizen needs to be documented so that they are not left behind in developmental programmes.

Citizens without national documents are regarded as stateless and cannot benefit from Government programmes.
