THE Warriors of Zimbabwe have ascended eight places to 90 in the latest world rankings, released by Fifa on Thursday.

In Africa, Zimbabwe are 24th, with Algeria, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana and Egypt completing the top five teams on the continent.

Zimbabwe garnered 358 points on the latest Fifa rankings.

Hard to stomach is the fact that countries such as Cape Verde Islands (74 in the world, 15 in Africa) and Uganda (81 in the world, 20 in Africa) are ranked above the Warriors.

World Cup winners Germany head the standings, followed by beaten finalists Argentina, Holland, Colombia and Belgium.

Costa Rica, who shone at Brazil 2014, notably rose to 15th – their best ever effort, while Sierra Leone broke into the top 50 for the first time.

World top 10: Germany, Argentina, Holland, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay, Spain, Brazil, Switzerland; France.

Africa top 10: Algeria, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Tunisia, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Burkina Faso; Senegal.
