THE Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association (Zisca) Bulawayo province executive has purchased equipment to be used by coaches in their traning programmes in a bid to improve the standards of the game in the city.
The association on Saturday bought football equipment ranging from balls, cones, markers and poles that are to be used by gaffers in communities and schools around the city.
Zisca Bulawayo chairman Bongani Mafu said this was the start of the various programmes that they have lined up for coaches in their quest to improve the standards of the game. “Our aim from the word go was to create a good working environment for our coaches covering their well being after life in case there’s a bereavement and their continued education and revision for the refresher courses,”said Mafu.
“The other objective was to facilitate the raising of funds to buy equipment which will belong to the association long after we have left office. So that coaches in Bulawayo who are not employed by any team at any given time can be of assistance to the community by taking the association’s equipment balls, cones, markers, poles, and start coaching in communities and most importantly in schools.
“The idea is that schools should be the biggest beneficiaries because this is where the talent comes from. We want schools to get proper coaches who are registered with the association and the coaches instead of sitting and being redundant, they get to use the equipment and get to be practising.” He said the association was still in need of more support.
“Our drive has been to raise this kind of money and we have raised a little bit of cash to say this is what we have raised as an executive. However, we are appealing to those who like football to help us or support coaches to help us gain more things. What we got today is a token but it is the first of equipment that belongs to Bulawayo soccer coaches association.”
Mafu called on coaches to lead by example in the vaccination programme as it was the only hope for the resumption of football at full scale. “Vaccination is very important and vital at the same time hence we encourage everyone, coaches to be the first ones to get the vaccine so that they can lead the players into getting vaccinated, and communities,” he said. “Communities take a lot after us coaches such that when coaches start talking negative about the vaccination it will not help to get other people as well to get vaccinated,” he added.
