Government should steadfastly invoke the law, especially when dealing with Western-funded subversive schemes by opposition elements angling to foment chaos in the country, visiting Venezuelan Vice Minister for Africa Yuri Pimentel has counselled.
Venezuela, just like Zimbabwe, has been grappling with a US-sponsored opposition party led by Juan Guaido, which has been staging demonstrations calculated to unseat the democratically elected government of Nicolas Maduro.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Minister Pimentel said there was need for Harare and Caracas to cooperate to bust US sanctions.
“What I am sure of is, if we try to go against these kind of measures (sanctions) one by one, we will be defeated. We have to be together, we have to work together even to denounce the sanctions,” he said.
“But also in a positive agenda, how to work together to increase production, to increase economic cooperation.
Since Zimbabwe is highly likely to find oil — especially in view of the positive results from exploration in the Muzarabani area (Mashonaland Central) — there was scope for the country to leverage on the Venezuelan University of Hydrocarbons, he said.
