Tafadzwa Ngoro, a lawyer, has appeared before a Norton court for allegedly representing two companies – Capevalley Properties (Pvt) Limited and Drowack Investments – without a valid practicing certificate.
However, Ngoro, through his lawyer Mr Tafadzwa Hungwe, denied the charges when he appeared before Norton magistrate Ms Rutendo Trish Machingura.
It is the State’s case that on November 21, 2022, Ngoro went to Norton Urban Police Station in the company of Grace Chanakira and Primrose Chakuchichi – who represent the companies in question – and introduced himself as their lawyer.
He allegedly then endorsed his signature on warned and cautioned statements that were recorded for the two women.
He, however, failed to produce a practicing certificate upon request by Assistant Inspector Daniel Gavi.
Instead, he reportedly gave the police a business card, which was produced in court as an exhibit.
Law Society of Zimbabwe executive secretary Mr Edward Mapara, who testified as a State witness, confirmed to the court that Ngoro was not a registered practitioner.
The matter is expected back in court on July 19 for judgment.
