At least 1 300 learners and their teachers from all provinces are gathered in Chinhoyi for the 2024 National Annual Science, Sport, Arts Festival.
The festival gives learners a platform to demonstrate their skills, and knowledge in disciplines such as mass displays, heritage, and innovations in science.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo was impressed with the displays by the learners including a remote-controlled lawn mower prototype, robots, and a self-running generator that does not use fuel.
The generator uses a 12 Volts battery to start a 1HP Direct Current motor, storing power in capacitors and generating 220V of power that can run a fridge for 5 hours with the battery removed.
It can recharge the battery through a power output cable to maintain the cycle of power supply.
Minister Moyo said the festival was a platform that helps to operationalise Education 5.0 by allowing learners to showcase their talents.
“Our teachers have been trained to identify talent and to nurture it so that it can blossom into useful things in life,” he said.

In a speech read by director in her office Mr Douglas Chiwiro, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said learners should take advantage of the festival to develop their skills.
“Through cognitive skills, technical skills and soft skills, pupils will be expected to showcase their prowess through innovations to thrive in a competitive national, regional and international landscape,” said Minister Chombo.
“The importance of this gathering is that it recognises the valuable support that our partners are rendering towards the success of the implementation of our Heritage Based Curriculum in particular and as we march towards vision 2030 in general.”
The festival is running under the theme “Transforming Education through Skills Development” and learners are participating in visual and performing arts and exhibitions in science, technology, design, and culinary.
Their also showcasing innovations in robotics and artificial intelligence.
