Leeford Zuze Shines In Botswana

LEEFORD Zuze on Saturday became the second Zimbabwean to run a 45-second 400m when he finished second behind Letsile Tebogo in Gaborone’s University Track.

Prior to his feat, only Lewis Banda had run a sub 45 seconds time when he set a national record in 2004.

Banda ran the distance in 44.58 seconds and 22 years later no athlete has come close to breaking the mark.

Tebogo, the Olympic champion timed 44.37 seconds with Zuze seconds in 44.91.

Dennis Hove clocked a flat 45 seconds with Thandazani Ndlovu running a personal best of 45.14 seconds.

The good times come a week after the trip was involved in Zimbabwe’s 4x400m relay record breaking feat at the Botswana National Stadium.

They ran the race in 3 minutes 00.69 seconds with Gerren Muwishi part of the team.
