Legendary Rahman Gumbo dies

FORMER Warriors and Highlanders coach Rahman Gumbo has died.

He was 59.

Fondly known as Rush, Gumbo is said to have suffered a heart attack at his Palapye home in neighbouring home in Botswana on Thursday. Earlier on this week, Gumbo, who enjoyed successful coaching stints in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Malawi, had parted ways with Batswana Premiership outfit Morupule Wanderers.

Scores of Zimbabweans have shockingly reacted to the sad news.

Ex Bosso gaffer Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu, who is in second coaching stint in Botswana, said : This is sad, I was with him a few days ago. You know how he was, he was cracking jokes with me. I’m shocked.”

Renowned former local radio personality Ezra Tshisa Sibanda was also at a loss of words.

“Coach Rah but why why why my brother? I’m devastated and still can’t believe it. I’m heartbroken. How can you just go like that my legend. You will always be a hero,” wrote Sibanda on Facebook.

Also on the same social media platform, United Kingdom(UK) based Siphambaniso Dube, who is one the brian’s behind Mpopoma based  Southern Region Division One side Ajax Hotspurs said: “What? How can this be? Sad news May Your Dearest Soul Rest in Peace Rush.”

Besides coaching Highlanders, Gumbo also had coaching gigs at CAPS United, FC Platinum, Motor Action, Chicken Inn and TelOne among other outfits.
