ZIMBABWE has been named the world’s best country to visit in 2025 by global travel platform Kayak.
This cements our place as a top-tier destination for travellers seeking a balance of adventure and relaxation.
The announcement could not have come at a better time.
We have scores of tourists and travel agents who have come into this country for the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo set for Mutare.
The Expo started yesterday.
The event has drawn thousands of local and international tourism stakeholders who are showcasing Zimbabwe’s full potential as a global tourism destination.
Zimbabwe’s ranking as the number one country to visit in the world this year is a massive boost for the nation.
Our unique combination of wild beauty, rich history and diverse landscapes has placed us firmly on the global tourism map.
There is so much that we can offer to the tourists – the Great Zimbabwe monument, the Victoria Falls, Kariba and its magical attractions and the Eastern Highlands and its beauty.
Yesterday, our sister newspaper The Herald reported that Zimbabwe’s tourism industry has emerged as one of the country’s most resilient economic pillars to generate over US$1,2 billion.
There is no question that our tourism industry is on the rebound.
We have seen that there has been an increase in the number of tourists who are arriving in this country.
This is very refreshing especially given that this is a sector which suffered from the onslaught on the country from forces which were opposed to the leadership of this nation.
There was a sustained blitz to paint Zimbabwe as a country which had collapsed and the message to the tourists was loud and clear – don’t go to visit places like the Victoria Falls.
The international media and other bloggers, including some from this country, came together to launch this blitz on Zimbabwe in the wake of the country’s land reform programme.
However, as they say in this world, you can’t keep a good man down.
Now, after years of pain, we are now seeing the picture changing and even those who were leading the campaign to paint Zimbabwe in a very bad light are now slowly changing their tune.
The truth that Zimbabwe is a very beautiful country is now being accepted around the globe and the latest ranking by Kayak is a major boost for our tourism industry.
It is also a major boost for the profile of our country.
Only two African countries – Zimbabwe and Morocco – made it into the top ten.
Let’s ride on this positivity as a country and make noise about it.
We should be seeing adverts, even on such international television platforms like CNN or BBC where we are celebrating this ranking and telling the world that we are the number one destination to visit in this world.
We should milk this because it is big.
The world should hear us and if we don’t do it no one else will do it for us.
