Let’s put Zimbabwe first: Zanu-PF candidate after loss

PROMINENT Kwekwe businessman and Zanu-PF losing candidate for Ward 10 in the gold mining town, Dr Solomon Matsa, has vowed to continue working with the community and the winning candidate saying development knows no political party.

In what was dubbed the “battle of doctors”, Dr Matsa polled 853 votes against 1 789 polled by the eventual winner and former Health Minister Dr Henry Madzorera of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Independent candidate, Tafara Dandadzi, garnered a paltry 52 votes while Sesimani Aaron of UZA received only 20 votes.

Dr Matsa, a popular businessman with interest in hospitality, construction, energy and transport has said he  stands ready to work with council  and Dr Madzorera in developing the ward.

Dr Madzorera is tipped to become the mayor of the city if what CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa said during a campaign rally in the run-up to the election is anything to go by.

“I lost the council seat and I am happy for my brother Dr Madzorera and I hope he will deliver on his mandate,” said Dr Matsa. 

He said his door remains open and is ready to assist wherever possible. 

“I believe that we are all Zimbabweans first before we are politicians. 

“At the end of the day what we  want is development in the area regardless of political inclinations,” said Dr Matsa.

He said the loss has given him time to reflect on his political career.

“I learned a lot from the loss and it gives me time to reflect on what I need to do right. For now, I concentrate on my businesses while correcting the mistakes made,” he said.

Dr Matsa said although he wanted to be on the driving seat of development in the ward, he respects the will of the people.

“Yes, Zanu-PF knows how to safeguard the country’s sovereignty which is under threat from imperialists, which I think other parties including CCC are still lagging behind. 

“We however, respect the will of the people and we are looking forward to the new council taking us to the next level of development as Kwekwe City,” said Dr Matsa.

Out of the 14 council seats, Zanu-PF won only two seats with CCC claiming the remainder.
