I WANT to strongly condemn the senseless xenophobic attacks that affected South Africa for the greater part of last week.
I wonder if the individuals participating in these barbaric acts know of their own history.
Was it not their brothers and sisters from across the continent who gave refuge to their leaders while they were fighting apartheid?
During the time of apartheid, many African countries, especially their neighbours, played a significant role to ensure that the black South African was freed from the shackles of oppression.
But, all of a sudden, we have become the enemy.
What disgusts me is the fact that those targeting foreigners in South Africa are not attacking the white minority, who took their land and actually control their wealth.
It baffles the mind why these people are wasting energy on attacking people, who are also struggling to make ends meet.
This is simply misdirected anger. We cannot pretend all is well in South Africa, when people are being stoned to death.
What is happening in South Africa is pure black on black hate, because if it was about driving out foreigners from that country, we all know who would have been the first target.
What worries me is the fact that law enforcement authorities have not been doing much to get things under control.
Ironically, if what is happening in South Africa was to happen in Zimbabwe, we could have witnessed the international community crying out loud.
I pray and hope that the South African government does more to ensure foreign African nationals are safe.
