LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Consider cholera vaccination for all

EDITOR: For a start, vaccinating 1,4 million people in cholera prone hotspots mainly in the capital City of Harare, Epworth and Chitungwiza sounds very necessary.

While our Ministers led by His Excellency President Mnangagwa were also vaccinated and led the way in the fight against this deadly water-borne disease, it’s necessary that Government and the Ministry of Health consider “vaccination for all” in the long-term.

Increasing the vaccination coverage for deadly diseases like cholera is a national goal in countries like Brazil where the Health Ministry put in place plans and a campaign to vaccinate the entire Brazilian population against yellow fever by 2019.

China did likewise by proposing to vaccinate 100% of children between six and nine months of age against measles.

Harare can copy from both Rio de Janeiro and Beijing.
