LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Speed up work on Bulawayo-Nkayi Road

Editor – The Nkayi-Bulawayo Road calls for urgent rehabilitation as its prolonged state continues to pose numerous threats to both investors and human life.

The road, a 158km stretch that snakes from Bulawayo to Nkayi Centre is characterised by horrible potholes and narrow bridges where two vehicles can hardly give way to each other.

The badly weathered road and its potholes cause adverse wear and tear to car tyres. Many investors shun Nkayi due to its hostile terrain that continues to be a death trap.

It is now over 38 years since our independence which we attained in 1980 but Nkayi dwellers are yet to enjoy safe travelling over a tarred road .

It is further worrying that the construction of this road once picked momentum in 1996 and one wonders how it later gained a snail pace that eventually fizzled out.

The Second Republic under President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is highly applauded for resuming work on this crucial road that has an economic effect on the future of Nkayi

Early in 2018, the President toured the road and inspected progress at the Ingwigwizi river bridge

The bridge is almost completed and villagers hope the tarring of the road proceeding to Nkayi will move at a faster pace,

The delay in finishing the road continues to lag development of Nkayi.
