Lindiwe Mhunduru: From sports reporter to legal practitioner

Ms Lindiwe Mhunduru has made a remarkable transition from a celebrated sports journalist to a lawyer, showcasing her perseverance and passion throughout her journey.

Ms Mhunduru began her career as a sports correspondent at The Herald in 1994, quickly establishing herself as a prominent voice in sports journalism.

Her dedication earned her recognition as the first runner-up for Sports Reporter of the Year in 1995.

Later that year, she joined ZBC Radio One, now Classic 263, as a sports producer and presenter, captivating audiences with her insights and enthusiasm.

In 1999, she was part of the pioneering team that launched the Daily News, further solidifying her reputation in the industry.

By 2001, Ms Mhunduru made history as Zimbabwe’s first female Sports Editor at The Mirror, where her leadership and editorial skills paved the way for future generations of women in journalism.

After years in media, Ms Mhunduru ventured into public relations and marketing but remained committed to lifelong learning. In 2022, at age 50, she graduated cum laude (with distinction) with an LLB from the University of South Africa (Unisa), proving that age is just a number when pursuing dreams.

Her commitment to education didn’t end there; she is presently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Procedural Law at the University of Zimbabwe, expanding her legal expertise.

Recently, Ms Mhunduru appeared before Justice Tawanda Chitapi for her registration as a legal practitioner.

In a heartfelt moment, Justice Chitapi praised her accomplishments, emphasising her role as an inspiration for those aspiring to reach their goals.

He highlighted her journey as proof that it’s never too late to follow one’s dreams, particularly noting her dual achievements in law at 50.

Ms Mhunduru’s story is a testament to resilience and determination.

Her journey from the newsroom to the courtroom serves as a beacon of hope for anyone doubting their potential.  As she embarks on this new chapter, Ms Mhunduru continues to inspire others to chase their dreams, regardless of age or circumstance.
