Lions maul man to death

AN unidentified person is suspected to have been mauled to death by lions at Ngamo Lion Release Site at Antelope Park in Gweru.

According to a summary of sudden death form, a human skull and bones were recovered by Antelope Park guides beside a road at Ngamo Lion Release Site last week.

Endangered lions are bred in captivity for release into the wild at Antelope Park as part of the animal sanctuary’s Lion Rehabilitation and Release into the Wild programme.

The remains were found after the park’s general manager Mr Gary Jones picked up a torn jacket at around 5.45PM on November 7.

He then sent field guides Gerald Mutindiri and Bongani Sayi on the following day to search all over the site and the two stumbled upon a human skull and bones.

“The skull and bones were collected and taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for post-mortem,” reads part of the sudden death report.

Police have now launched investigations to get the full particulars of the deceased following the recovery of a cell phone where the human remains were found.
