LIVE BLOG : Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference 2023

Thousands of delegates are gathered at the Midlands Zanu PF Convention Centre in Gweru for the 20th Annual National People’s Conference. This year’s conference is expected to reflect on key aspects such as the party’s achievements, the state of the party, the economy, food security and nutrition, social services and poverty eradication.

10:34– President Mnangagwa and First Secretary of Zanu-PF who is accompanied by his two Vice Presidents, Cde Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi has arrived at the venue to a thunderous welcome from delegates

 

10:50-The President arrived accompanied by the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa

10:51-Also present are Zanu-PF National Chair Cde Oppah Muchinguri, Second Secretaries Cde Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi.

 

10:59– Zanu PF National Commissar, Dr Mike Bimha welcomes the delegates and invites Secretary for Admin, Dr Obert Mpofu to officially announce the Conference in accordance with the party’s constitution

11:00-Dr Obert Mpofu declares that the conference is now in session and introduces Provinces

 

11:31– Zanu PF Second Secretary and Vice President, Cde Dr Constantino Chiwenga is now on the podium giving his remarks.

11:33 -He starts by congratulating President Mnangagwa for winning the recently held harmonised elections. He also congratulates Zanu PF’s winning candidates.

11:36 -He says the conference’s theme: ‘Towards Vision 2030 through Devolution, Industrialisation and Modernisation’, resonates well with the Second Republic’s vision.

11:46- He describes President Mnangagwa as a patriot who sacrificed his life since childhood to liberate the country. He says the President is an exemplary leader who loves his country and has undertaken massive development projects.

11:47- He urges people to forget about some opposition political parties who continue to day dream that there will be a unity government. He says Zanu PF won the elections and formed a Government which is now focused on developing the country.

11:49- The Vice President has finished his address and invites President Mnangagwa to give his opening remarks

11:58- President Mnangagwa says the elections victory in the recently held harmonised elections symbolises the people’s confidence in Zanu PF’s leadership. He takes a swipe at opposition backed opposition parties.

11:59-  He thanks all the people, members of Zanu PF and affiliate organisations for ensuring a Zanu PF victory.

12:01– The President asks the Conference to stand-up and observe a minute of silence for members who have passed away since the last Conference.

12:05- He chronicles the Party’s history in the Midlands Province and says illegal sanctions against the country must never deter the country.

12:06- The President says the Government should ensure development in agriculture, mining, tourism, industry, among others.

 

12:08- He reiterates his mantra ‘Nyika inovakwa, igonamatirwa, igotongwa nevene vayo’ and urges all citizens to do more to build the country.

12:10- He says, “Us and us alone can resolve our challenges as long as we are united.”

12:22- He says Agriculture remains the mainstay of the economy. He says Government has introduced programmes such as Pfumvudza which are helping to make families food-secure.

12:13- President Mnangagwa says the country will have another record bumper wheat harvest and congratulates the country on the milestone.

12:15- Success in the mining sector has seen the country realising its target of a US$12 billion mining sector, “However, we are not stopping as our people should realise benefits from our natural resources.”

12:17- President Mnangagwa says the delivery of modern social services must be prioritised by the Zanu PF-led Government.

12:19- He says the country should embrace cutting-edge technology to modernise and develop.

12:22- He says the innovation hubs in the universities across the country have seen talented boys and girls manufacturing various products natural resources.

12:26- He reiterates that the country is a friend to all and enemy to none. He says the speedy attainment of Vision 2030 is a collective responsibility.

12:28- He presents the Central Committee report for consideration and adoption by the 20th Annual People’s Conference.

12:28- He declares the 20th Zanu PF National Annual People’s Conference officially opened.

12:29- The President ends his address.

12:36- Zanu PF Second Secretary and Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi is now giving a vote of thanks.

12:37 –He thanks the President for his commitment and dedication to the party.
