Liverpool considers letting seven leave

LIVERPOOL could stop now and this would already go down as one of the club’s busiest transfer windows in recent memory.

Florian Wirtz headlines the arrivals, a level of signing the club doesn’t usually pull off, and he’s just one part of a spending spree that’s soared past $300 million. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have been added at full-back, while Hugo Ekitike brings firepower up front alongside Wirtz. Conor Bradley may still have something to say about the future at right-back, but either way, there’s serious depth building.

And it might not be over yet.

The pursuit of Alexander Isak is ongoing, with a fresh twist after Manchester United stepped up interest in Benjamin Sesko, a move that could affect Liverpool’s plans. If they do land Isak, Arne Slot’s front line would be stacked: Isak, Ekitike, Wirtz, Salah, Gakpo, plus exciting young talents like Rio Ngumoha and Ben Doak. It’s an attack capable of terrifying the league, and potentially defending the Premier League title.

That said, Liverpool’s remaining transfer business is expected to focus at the other end of the pitch.

According to The Athletic, the club sees Isak as a one-off opportunity. If that deal falls through, there’s no intention to chase another striker. The greater need is at centre-back. Heading into the final pre-season matches, Ibrahima Konaté was the only fit central defender. Slot was forced to improvise with Trey Nyoni, Andy Robertson and Wataru Endo, who, along with Ryan Gravenberch, is seen as an emergency option.

A new centre-back, then, is a clear priority before the window closes.

With net spending already around $235 million, and a deal for Isak still on the table, Liverpool are expected to offload several players. Up to seven departures are being considered.

Darwin Nunez, despite not being directly tied to the Isak chase, is a likely exit. Liverpool are expected to cash in regardless, especially with Al Hilal pushing to make him a marquee signing. He’d command a significant fee, possibly enough to cover a big chunk of Isak’s price tag.

Other exits will likely come from the fringes. Tyler Morton, who has just two Premier League appearances, is close to a $20 million move to Lyon. James McConnell and Luca Stephenson, both academy products, are exploring loan deals but could leave permanently if the right offers come in.

Then there’s Ben Doak. Liverpool are holding off on a decision, waiting to see whether a firm bid materialises. The club turned down offers worth $26.5 million in January, and could command more now. West Ham and Wolves are among several interested sides, per David Lynch.

Also on the list are Kostas Tsimikas and Federico Chiesa. Neither featured heavily last season, and their roles look even more limited following this summer’s signings. Chiesa is expected to leave before the deadline. Tsimikas is still weighing his options, but with Kerkez and Robertson likely ahead of him, a move wouldn’t be surprising.

The Community Shield is just days away, but Liverpool’s squad remains in flux. A starting XI is coming into focus, but the wider squad still feels unsettled, and that’s before any late-window surprises.

Even beyond the seven names mentioned, players like Harvey Elliott could yet attract major bids. Liverpool have been aggressive in reshaping the squad, and the business end of the window hasn’t even arrived yet.

Buckle up. The window might already be wild, but it’s not over. — Liverpool
