“We need to find one or two players to help make the difference in games like that,” said Rodgers.
“We have had a lot of draws now this season (13) and we need to find a solution for that. We were not at our best against Everton, but you have to make sure you’re competitive. We have kept another clean sheet, which is 15 now for the season.
“You need to be strong defensively as well as attacking. We have scored a lot of goals this year, but we need to improve against teams who defend and sit back.”
While the talk before the game was about a possible power shift on Merseyside, afterwards the main discussion point was Sylvain Distin’s disallowed goal.
The Everton defender rose above Jamie Carragher, who was playing his final Merseyside derby before retirement, to head home Leighton Baines’ corner in the second half, but referee Michael Oliver had already blown for a foul on goalkeeper Pepe Reina by Everton striker Victor Anichebe.
Everton manager David Moyes was not in agreement and he claimed decisions like that are the reason why the Toffees are without a win at Anfield since 1999.
“It was a goal, a legitimate goal,” said Moyes. “The goalkeeper runs into Victor Anichebe and it’s a goal. The referee said that Victor impeded the goalkeeper, but it was actually the goalkeeper who ran into him.
“So it can’t possibly be a free-kick. It is frustrating because people are quite quick to remind me that I have not won here at Anfield, but if you don’t get any decisions it is very hard to win here.
“And that is quite a regular occurrence when we come to Anfield. “It was not a foul. It’s disappointing, because it is not easy to come here and win. — AFP.
