Living legends revisit heyday in TV production

Discussions about the arts industry cannot be complete without mentioning some individuals who have contributed to its development for the past years. In that regard producer Maslen Bondamakara has worked on a programme “Living Legends” that honours living legends in arts, entertainment and sport.The programme that will be screened on ZBC TV starting this Sunday will feature the likes of Mechanic Manyeruke, Lawrence Simbarashe popularly known as Bonzo, Albert Nyathi, Elizabeth Nyangudzira who acted as Mai Jari in soap Studio 263, Moffat Nyamupindu who is Suluman Chimbetu bass guitarist and soccer legend George Shaya.

Musicians Willom Tight and Nicholas Zakaria, actress Jesesi Mungoshi, producer Clive Mono Mkundu, guitarist Innocent Mjintu and Vabati VaJehovha choral outfit are some of the stars to take part in the programme.

The 13 personalities will feature in the first season of the programme.

Bondamakara said the programme seeks to explore the lives of the legends as well as taking people back to their heyday.

“These guys are legends who need to keep telling the nation how they managed to make their names for the benefit of upcoming talents. Many have to learn from these guys who have become role models,” she said.

“We will go around the country looking for people who contributed to the development of arts and sport. There are several ways in which people can honour the guys,” she said.

The programme visits some of the exiting and sad moments of the legends’ careers.

“We will be screening some footages of their heyday during the interviews,” she said.

Bondamakara worked with Mallon Murapi and Robert Mwamvani on the production of the programme.

Zakaria is one of the most popular artistes to emerge from this country.

The musician has worked with several artistes that include System Tazvida and Alick Macheso.

Mungoshi featured in a many local films and her lead role in “Neria” touched the hearts of many viewers.

Hilarious “Bonzo Nechikwata” drama became a source of glory for Simbarashe who inspired several actors to take up the art.
