THE Local Organising Committee (Loc) of the 2016 National Paralympic Games set for Gwanda from April 5-9 are desperate to raise $328,160 to make the event a success.

Loc chairman Midard Khumalo said although most sporting facilities to be used for the games had been rehabilitated to meet requirements of the athletes, their main worry was meeting the budget.

“The local organising committee is expected to raise $108,000 while central government has pledged $100,000 towards the successful hosting (of the games),” said Khumalo.

He said the participating provincial teams were expected to pay $120,000 in participation fees.

“We are hopeful that by the end of this month we will have covered a lot of ground in terms of preparations.”

He also said they needed 12,000 litres of diesel and 7,000 litres of petrol to assist in terms of mobility.

A command centre had been set up and accommodation for visitors had been secured.
