Poland-based Zimbabwean Afro-fusion singer-songwriter Ashta Eez (born Natasha Tinashe Angela Zembe) has teamed up with South African rapper Big Xhosa (Sesethu Myeki) for a collaboration. Their new single, “Pitori”, was released globally last Friday.
Blending Amapiano rhythms with House and Afro-dance elements, the track showcases Ashta Eez’s groovy vocals alongside Big Xhosa’s distinctive rap style. The single was produced by Zimbabwe’s Junior Malinduka (Puppy Beats) and South Africa’s Progressyv_CPT, and is already gaining traction on streaming platforms.
Ashta Eez described the song as a celebration of Pretoria’s vibrant culture.
“It’s a song that delves into the diverse and lively spirit of Pretoria. We hope fans connect with the city’s rich history while enjoying the groovy sound we’ve created,” she said.
On working with Big Xhosa, known for his controversial persona, she said, “Collaborating with him was exciting. His unique energy and perspective brought a fresh dimension to the song. Creativity thrives when you are open to different styles and viewpoints.”
Big Xhosa shot to prominence with a bold, self-proclaimed “hottest rapper” diss track that challenged South Africa’s hip-hop scene, showcasing the artiste’s raw talent and authenticity. A versatile creative, he works as a musician, songwriter, actor, and scriptwriter. Known for blending traditional hip-hop with modern influences, Big Xhosa has collaborated with major artistes such as Big Zulu and Cassper Nyovest, and his music has also featured in television productions.
With its upbeat tempo, “Pitori” is positioned as a festive-season anthem.
“It’s perfect for Christmas, Easter, or any moment when you’re in a groove mood. Its celebratory vibe makes it ideal for parties and gatherings,” Ashta Eez added.
Fans in Zimbabwe can also look forward to live performances. While dates are yet to be confirmed, Ashta Eez promised updates via her social media channels.
“Pitori” continues Ashta Eez’s mission to bridge African musical Diasporas, following prior collaborations with artistes from Nigeria, Zambia, and her Polish base. The single is now available on all major streaming platforms. – Follow on X: @MbuleloMpofu
