THE recipient of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) Best Graduating Radio Broadcaster award, Mr Brandon Tshuma believes the award goes a long way in inspiring journalism students to aim for higher grades in their courses.
Mr Tshuma won the award, sponsored by local businessman Brian Samuriwo through the Samuriwo Foundation, at the 31st Nust graduation yesterday.
This is the second year that the Samuriwo Foundation has sponsored the award.
“Students thrive on motivation and the award definitely spurs journalism students to work hard to achieve better grades and stand a chance of winning the award on graduation day.
“The award is a testament of the impact that local businesses can have on the community when they prioritise social responsibility and youth empowerment. The Second Republic, led by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, continues to promote development and initiatives that motivate young people to work hard are most welcome.
“I would like to send my gratitude to the Brian Samuriwo Foundation for the award and also call upon other businesses to sponsor more awards and inspire future journalists,” said Mr. Tshuma.
Last year, Mr Samuriwo came to the rescue of the Nust campus radio station after he installed a 4,5 kilowatt solar system.
The solar system enables Nust FM Campus Radio Station to have a constant power supply, ensuring uninterrupted broadcasting services.
The studio station requires approximately 1,5KW to power the lights, studio equipment, as well as air conditioners. It has an automatic changeover system in case of power cuts.
Before the solar power installation, incessant power cuts threatened the radio station’s license as part of the regulations to run a radio station including the need for a consistent power supply.
