Local businessman to boost music industry with free studio

The art industry will soon receive a significant boost from local businessman, Tau Chamatamba, fondly known as Boss T, who is establishing a studio where local artistes will be able to record their music free of charge.

In an interview, Boss T revealed that the studio in Bulawayo will cater to both established and up-and-coming artistes from the city. He said he hopes it will be ready for use next month.

“I’m building a big studio meant for the artistes in our community and they will be recording their music free of charge. I came up with this initiative after realising that Bulawayo has talent, but there is no studio where they can record their music without paying,” he said.

“All along, I’ve been using Impala Records to help local artistes.”
Boss T is not new to the music industry, having worked with well-known artistes including Mai Mwamuka, Killer T, Ma9ine, Hwindi President, Jaycee and Wyper Real. He has been organising shows and promoting these artistes for some time.

He stressed the importance of uplifting and growing local talent.
“While helping them to record their music, at the same time, I provide them with outfits to wear as they perform,” said Boss T.

“I’m doing this as we want to see artistes from Bulawayo being given first priority at shows in the city; we want them to be the main acts. For us to see that, we need to support them all the way. We cannot afford to have all this talent go to waste,” he said.

He said he will continue facilitating collaborations for artistes with established ones from other cities and, in the long run, from neighbouring South Africa.
Wyper Real (real name Allen Maunze), one of the artistes who have benefited from Boss T’s support shared how he has had  several collaborations.

“Boss T is my manager. He started managing me in 2019 when we did tracks like ‘Nzira Dzangu’, ‘Chitima’, and ‘Swatutsa’, recorded by Cymplex music. Through his support, I collaborated with Celsius on a track called ‘Rudo’ and did a song with Hwindi President titled ‘Parinorira’ about my first musical journey.

“My last collaboration was with Uncle Epatan on a song named ‘Rugare Tange Nhamo’, a motivational song about never giving up.

“Now in 2024, we are back again with a bang with Boss T. We are working on an album, yet to be named and I also have upcoming collaborations on that album with artistes like T Gonz, Imwe Mbeu, and Hwindi President, and two surprise artistes,” he said.
Boss T further stated that he is willing to help any artiste who approaches him without hesitation.
