Local firm introduces rabbit polony

THE country’s biggest rabbit abattoir and meat processor, Raymeg Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, has added polony to a wide variety of rabbit meat-based products it offers for the local market.

The company, which opened an abattoir in Harare last year, offers, among others, rabbit meat-based products, burgers, pizza, pies and biltong.

“After many months of dedicated research and preparation, Raymeg Consultants Private Limited has successfully launched Zimbabwe’s very first rabbit polony,” Paidamoyo Nyamakanga, the company’s executive director, said yesterday.

“The launch is part of Raymeg’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the rabbit value chain in Zimbabwe. The new addition significantly broadens our range of rabbit meat value-added products, which now includes rabbit burgers, rabbit pies, rabbit biltong, rabbit nuggets, rabbit and chips, rabbit pizza and more,” she added.

The company, which has an out-grower scheme with small-scale farmers, is also exploring the export market, with China in focus. It views the market for rabbit meat — local and foreign — as vast and is gearing to expand into both. — New Ziana
