ZIMBABWEAN professional golfers are enjoying game-time after last week’s LiuGong Pro-Am held at Chapman, as they head straight to Kampala, Uganda, for the Uganda Open which tees off tomorrow morning.
Several professional golfers, including Robson Chinhoi, Ignatius Mketekete, Never Milanzi, Clive Nguru Jnr and Visitor Mapwanya, among several others, left the country for Kampala on Monday where they are expected to fly the country’s flag high.
Milanzi and Nguru said they are looking forward to a good outing the East African country.
With some good sponsorship coming his way, Milanzi said his confidence is improving with each passing tournament.
“I am very happy that we are now having some tournaments both back home and internationally. We had been affected so much by Covid-19 with most of us turning to coaching but we are back to full business now.
“The tournaments helps us a lot and I have been improving on my swing and putting which gives me so much confidence. I did fairly well in the opening rounds of the Zimbabwe Open and that has boosted my confidence.
“The more you play in these high profile tournaments, the more it helps you to improve on your game and I hope I will do well in Uganda,” said Milanzi.
The Hatfield-based professional had a decent outing last week when he finished on position seven at one-over-par in a tournament that was won by Royal Harare’s Promise Sumbrero.
Sumbrero went for a four-way play-off with Chinhoi whom he beat on the fourth attempt.
Sumbrero won his first ever title on the local circuit after beating Chinhoi to pocket US$980 as the latter pocketed US$480.
Mketekete and Biggie Chibvuri were tied on third place at three-under-69 to pocket US$460 each with Mapwanya and Tafara Mpofu completing the top five on one-under-par to take home US$200 each. Nguru Jnr, who is son to the late Falcon based top professional Clive Snr, is also part of the field that left for Uganda on Monday and said he is looking forward to redeem himself.
Having stood toe-to-toe with Scott Vincent, Dumisani Chitengwa and Nyasha Muyambo whom he usually dominated during their amateur days, Nguru Jnr is still to live to his promise.
