Local hulk wins Shameen Classic

in the Under-95kgs category before he landed the big prize in the overall section.
The Shameen Classic saw the winners of the men’s bantamweight section, the Under-75kgs, the Under-85kgs and the over 95 kgs lining up against Hungwe who had won the Under-95kgs category.
“This was my first show of the year and I think I have started off well.
“I wanted to use this as a springboard to forthcoming events and I am glad that I managed to beat them,” said Hungwe.
He wrote his own piece of history on Saturday as he became the first Zimbabwean to win the Shameen Classic, one of the biggest regional shows. 
The hulk, who trains at the Borrowdale race-course gym, had finished in fourth place at the event sponsored by one of South Africa’s bodybuilding legends Shameen Adams on his first attempt last year.
Hungwe has now added the Shameen Classic to the Mr Pro-Fitness title he lifted last year after beating a star-studded field of local athletes at the Celebration Centre in October.
The Mr Pro-Fitness title was the first accolade in Hungwe’s professional career and now he has added his first crown from an international event by winning the Shameen Classic. Hungwe said he will be eager to defend the Pro-Fitness title this year and possibly take part if the prestigious Mr Zimbabwe contest is revived.
“I came to the event as a rank outsider because I was competing against five guys who had been to the world championships. So lining up against these guys was an honour for me and just winning against them was a bonus,” said Hungwe.
By winning the Shameen Classic, Hungwe has been invited to the SA Nationals set for August.
