All is set for the Size 4 modelling agency graduation ceremony to be held tomorrow at the Wing-wa hotel in Harare. About 15 models are scheduled to go on the ramp in three categories, showcasing their newly acquired modelling and posing skills.In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, yesterday Size 4 founder Wilbert Rukato said the purpose of the event is to honour models that have gone under training for eight weeks.
“Our models have been under training for eight weeks where they were taught basics of modelling from walking, posing for photography and how to carry themselves among other things. So they are now ripe and we are awarding them for their excellence,” said Rukato.
“We are also to conduct a mini modelling competition on the evening with the graduates where the competition will see two graduates (male and female) being chosen for Mr and Miss Funky. There will also be four other winners on different categories namely best hair style, best walk, best dressed and best look,” he said.
Rukato, a former model, said the winning models chosen by the judges will go on stage to collect complimentary tokens before joining the rest of the models.
He added that a number of activities were lined up.
“Entertainment galore includes resident DJs Takeova and King Avry as well as The Incredibles hip-hop dance group. Other performers are Itana supported by Dadda7 and TC&JP. We also have a surprise guest.”
He said the event is strictly formal. “It is an up-market event so people should dress for the occasion.
Rukato encouraged other models nationwide to take up modelling as a profession as it sustains livelihoods.
“Other countries take modelling seriously and models earn a living through it. For example, US model Naomi Campbell is rich but she made money through catwalk. So I encourage everyone to fully support modelling as it can also develop the nation through tourism,” he said.
The event is expected to attract top fashionistas and modelling fans.
Size 4 modelling agency over the years has diversified into other lucrative business ventures such as fashion sales, advertising and entertainment management.
Some of the top models that have been nurtured by the agency include Greatmore Chatya of Supermodel Zimbabwe 2004, Miss Zimbabwe 2002 Phoebe Monjane, radio personality Itayi Mutinhiri and Jefferson Muserera, a television presenter and actor.
Among models that will graduate tomorrow are Miriam Nkala, Arifa Hasim, Joana Muzira, Nyaradzo Basopa, Evelyne Madede and Lorraine Sithole.
