Local solutions to epilepsy sought

Zimbabwe is moving forward to register Epilepsy Alliance Africa in Zimbabwe in a quest to proffer locally based solutions to bridge the gap between international solutions and local solutions for people living with epilepsy.

Epilepsy Alliance Africa is a Pan-African model of epilepsy management education, awareness, advocacy and capacity building which is a platform for African countries to interact and proffer solutions to people living with epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Support Foundation yesterday commemorated Epilepsy International Day in Harare under the theme, “Implementation of the resolution for epilepsy”.

Speaking during the event, Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare director of disability affairs Dr Christine Peta said the Government’s quest to refurbish the welfare of people living with disabilities was backed by the transformation from charity help to ensuring human rights for people living with disability.

“As Government, we have a lot of projects ongoing to help people living with disabilities, including those living with epilepsy,” she said. “To reach the grassroots, we have implored disability officers that have been appointed in each of the 10 provinces in Zimbabwe.
