A LOCAL tour operator, Domboview Adventures, a rising name in Zimbabwe’s tourism sector, will embark on a Cancer Colour Hike next month as part of Cancer Awareness Month celebrations.
The event, scheduled for October 25, will be themed around the colour pink to raise awareness and support women affected by cancer.

Known for blending cultural heritage, eco-friendly practices, and community empowerment, Domboview Adventures aims to promote domestic tourism through unique experiences.
A portion of the proceeds from the Ngomakurira Colour Hike will go toward cancer awareness initiatives, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community welfare.
Founded by Dr Pearson Pfavayi, a passionate Zimbabwean dedicated to reconnecting people with their roots, Domboview Adventures offers curated hiking and cultural tours at sites such as Ngomakurira, Mavanga Cave, Domboshava and all around Zimbabwe.

“In honour of Cancer Awareness Month, we will promote the pink colour during this hike, which is our way of raising cancer awareness while also encouraging domestic tourism,” said Dr. Pfavayi.
The event will also feature performances by three winners from the local talent search show, Starbrite.
“With Starbrite we will have three of last year’s winners who will take part in the hike and will also perform some of their songs,” he said.
Dr Pfavayi explained that the company’s mission goes beyond adventure tourism.

“By bringing people back to our sacred mountains, caves, and heritage sites, we are reviving our cultural identity and passing it on to future generations. Our events are about reconnecting with who we are as Zimbabweans.”
The Ngomakurira Colour Hike exemplifies this ethos. Participants will trek the iconic granite mountain, famous for its ancient San rock art and spiritual significance, in a vibrant, festive atmosphere. Activities include guided tours, storytelling about the site’s history, team-building exercises, and cultural rituals such as wearing traditional “Zambia” cloths, symbolizing unity.
Domboview Adventures champions eco-friendly tourism, designing activities like hiking, abseiling, and nature retreats to minimize environmental impact. Partnering with the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe, the company supports heritage site preservation and protection of ancient rock art.

Community involvement is also a priority, with local sourcing of supplies and creation of economic opportunities for residents in the Domboshava area. This approach aligns with national and global sustainable tourism best practices, emphasizing responsible travel, community benefit, and conservation of natural and cultural resources.
Ngomakurira, meaning “drums sounding” in Shona, is not only a scenic hiking destination but also a sacred site historically used for rainmaking ceremonies and spiritual rituals. Its caves contain some of Zimbabwe’s best-preserved San rock art, offering insight into the beliefs and daily lives of the country’s earliest inhabitants.

Domboview’s initiatives complement recent government efforts. Last month, Zimbabwe launched the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Policy (2025–2030), which highlights domestic tourism, cultural preservation, and eco-friendly practices. The policy encourages innovative strategies to accelerate tourism development, leverage the country’s rich heritage, and empower local communities.
