Locals miss European Tour cut

THREE local professional golfers – Ryan Cairns, Mohammad Rauf Mandhu and Greg Bentley – failed to make the AfrAsia, Mauritius Tour cut after yesterday’s pre-qualifying round at the Woodwill Golf Club in Pretoria, South Africa.

The three, who are members of the Sunshine Tour, were part of players who took to the field trying to get a ticket to play in the last European Tour co-sanctioned event to be held next week. Cairns was the best-placed of the trio as he finished the single round on two-under 70 in a tournament that attracted 78 players with only the top ten joining the rest of the players for the tourney.

Mandhu finished the round on level par 70 while Bentley was two strokes behind on two-over 74. The tournament will now see only two locals making it at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Marc Cayeux will be part of the field through an invitation based on medical grounds while Mark Williams has a better placing on the order of merit and is a former Sunshine Tour title holder.
