TODAY, South African kwaito group Big Nuz was supposed to travel to Bulawayo for an event dubbed “A night with legends” at BAC Leisure, but sadly, one of the members of the group, Mampintsha fell ill and died last week Saturday.
Mampintsha, real name Mandla Maphumulo died in Durban after suffering a second stroke.
Originally comprised of three members, only Mzi Mkhwanazi, popularly known as Danger is the surviving member of Big Nuz.
The first to die was Sibusiso Khomo popularly known as R-Mashesha in August 2015
Mampintsha’s death came days after he and Danger re-united to release the single Ngeke on November 25 which is currently topping charts in South Africa.
In memorial and celebration of the legend, organisers of the event have decided to go on with it as a tribute to Mampintsha who will be buried tomorrow. The event slated for Friday has now been themed “Tribute to Mampintsha Legends old school night”.
Event organiser, Mduduzi Mdlongwa of 3D Events said Mampintsha’s death was a blow to the entertainment industry.
“The sudden death of the lead singer of Big Nuz, Mampintsha, whom we had advertised to perform on the 29th is a major blow. It’s a great loss to the arts fraternity as he was one talented artiste. However, we’ve decided to honour him by hosting a tribute event which will play out for an hour,” said Mdu.
“As previously planned, the event will have an old-school vibe. People will be treated to old tunes, different from what they have been exposed to in the past weeks.”
He said numerous prizes including a one-night stay at a top hotel in the city are on offer for those who will perform the group’s cover songs well among other competitions.
“We have added a few prizes for the best dressed as well as best cover song performance of any Big Nuz song,” Mdu said.
On the decks will be household DJs, Emitty Smooth, Joe tha Og and Mark Vusani who are set to keep the audience entertained.
