TWO of Zimbabwe’s top tennis players Benjamin and Courtney Lock combined well to beat Australia’s Jake Delaney and Bruno Nhavene of Mozambique 6-4, 6-3 to win the doubles title in the US$15 000 ITF Men’s Tournament in Maputo, Mozambique, on Saturday.
This is their 13th professional doubles title that they have won together.
In the semi-finals on Friday, the Lock brothers, who are both members of the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team, beat Prajwal Dev and Rishi Reddy of India 6-4, 7-6 (5) to enter the final.
Last month, the Lock brothers were also on fire during the Lagos Open in Nigeria where they lifted the doubles title after beating American William Bushamuka and Aryan Goveas of India 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
This was their fifth doubles title of the year before they flew to Mozambique where they were once again conquerors on Saturday in Maputo to assert themselves as two of the top men’s doubles players in the ITF circuit this year.
Another Zimbabwean player Takanyi Garanganga reached the singles final of the same tournament in Maputo where he, unfortunately, lost to Spain’s David Perez Sanz 7-5, 6-3, according to reports from the Mozambican capital.
To reach the men’s singles final, Garanganga, who is also a member of the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team, beat Canada’s Kelsey Stevenson 6-4, 6-3 in the last four.
In the quarter-finals, Garanganga was stretched to three sets by American Denis Uspensky before winning 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
